Washington State, USA — Gaining the mantle of the world's fastest
production car for an auto company is like a soccer mad nation winning
the FIFA World Cup. It's a very big event. Which is why this next news
story is so compelling. The
previous record holder for the fastest production car in the world is
one of the most searched for vehicles on the Internet, a now
legendary super car thanks to its fire-breathing quad turbo 16-cylinder
engine, the Bugatti Veyron. But now the record holder has changed hands, to the Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo, which is built by Shelby
Supercars. This super car featuring a somewhat retro 1990s style bested
the Bugatti Veyron's top speed by 3.11 miles per hour, posting a top
speed of 257.11mph. Using the Australian standard, that's an eye
watering 414km/h! Interestingly,
the Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo performed this feat on a closed
two-lane stretch of highway in the United states (Washington State), and not at a banked oval racetrack or on a salt flat. The
'clinically insane' Ultimate Aero managed to reach this incredible
world record breaking speed thanks to its slippery aerodynamics, light
weight, performance tyres and of course a massively worked twin turbo
387 cubic inch V8 engine. Shelby Supercars claims it's world
record breaking sports car belts out a terrifying 882 kilowatts of power
(1183hp) from its 6.3-litre (6342cc) turbocharged engine, and when the
car weighs 30kg less than an Audi TT it's a recipe for speed. Peak
torque is higher than the Bugatti Veyron too, rated at a whopping 1481
Newton Metres @ 6150rpm. As well as surpassing 400km/h, the Ultimate
Aero Twin Turbo can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just 2.8 seconds
and dispatches the quarter mile in 9.9 seconds at a top speed of 144mph
(232km/h). This stunning top speed (averaged to 412km/h or 255.83mph after two runs) has
the Guinness World Record stamp of approval and was overseen by Guinness World Record officials, but you can bet that
Bugatti is prepping a special edition Veyron to wrest back the velocity
crown.
