speaks with Soddem Hussein
US President George W. Bush says the regime of Saddam Hussein
is over and that it is a great day in the history of freedom.
However, Mr Bush has stopped short of claiming complete victory
as US forces continue to wipe out pro-Saddam resistance in
Iraq.
And as mopping-up operations continue Washington has toned
down its public statements about Syria, which was being accused
by the US of harbouring top Iraqi officials and having weapons
of mass destruction.
Other developments in Iraq:
- A firefight between US forces and an armed crowd has left
at least three Iraqis dead and 10 others in hospital.
- A senior British official concedes that the Allies are
not prepared for the post-war chaos that exists in Iraq.
- Terrorist leader Abu Abbas, who masterminded the 1985
hijacking of the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro, has
been captured by US Special Forces in southern Baghdad.
The Australian Department of Defence has set up a 24-hour
email and free call fax service (1800 643 938) to provide
members of the public with the facility to send their messages
to Aussie troops. Click
