Ben Lomond
Despite
the somewhat unorthodox name, Ben Lomond is arguably Tasmania's
premier ski resort. Located in Ben Lomond National Park (hence
the name), it sits some 1573m above sea level.
In total, there are 8 surface lifts, with 6 being run by
Alpine Enterprises (3 poma and 3 T-bars) and 2 by Tas Ski
Lifts (both Pomas), though it should be mentioned that lift
tickets for the two companies are separate.
Still, Ben Lomond offers a full range of facilities to enjoy
the winter wonderland. The Village is located conveniently
at the foot of the lift systems and in general, the mountain
offers good novice and intermediate skiing and snowboarding,
and excellent cross-country skiing.
The Ben Lomond National Park and Alpine resort is located
roughly two and a half hours drive from Hobart, and 60 mintues
drive from Launceston.
Day
entry passes can be purchased to drive into the National Park (found at
the park entry or at the Creek Inn). Day passes are available andfor
details check their website. These fees help provide road clearing
services and the further development of the ski field.
