Whether
you are someone visiting Australia, or happen to be looking
for an escape from the southern states' colder climes, then
the tropical north of Queensland may very well be the answer.
Centred on Cairns and Port Douglas, the region is one of
the most eco-tour friendly areas on Earth.
Just north of Port Douglas
are glorious rainforests, including the famous Daintree,
while off the coast lies the stunning Great
Barrier Reef. Both of these very different examples of
Australia's natural beauty are World Heritage listed.
And there are some wonderful things to see and do while in
the far north and they range from lying on a beach (or beside
a pool) to sightseeing and extreme sports.
Or head off on various tours through the forests. Experiences can include:
- Day trips from Cairns that includes a train ride past stunning waterfalls and through underground tunnels, then you can get a bird's-eye view of the canopy of one of the world's great rainforests on a gondola cableway.
- Trips to see a landscape hundreds of thousands of years old and also Australia's wonderful kangaroos, emus and other creatures
in a unique environment.
- Early-morning hot-air balloon ride to see Green Islandnear the
Great Barrier Reef where you can snorkel, ride a glass bottom
boat, relax on the beach or wander the National Park.
- White-water rafting to be had on the Tully River
All of this and so much more to see and do in Tropical North Queensland
