The Great Barrier Reef is the only natural wonder that can
be seen from space and it stretches some 2000km along Queensland's
north-eastern coast of Australia.
The total area of the reef is some 345,000 square km - or
about 1/20th of the size of the Australian continent - and
is made up of hundreds of islands and coral reefs.
Perfect for sailing, snorkelling or scuba-diving, the Great
Barrier Reef is one of those "must-do" tourist adventures.
There are more than 400 coral types within the waters of
the national park and countless fish and marine species.
In northern Queensland you can get to the spectacular Great
Barrier Reef from Cairns
and Port Douglas.
