The Way to See South Australia
Itinerary
The best way to see South Australia is by motorbike, but
in case you don't like motorcycles or have a phobia of putting
a helmet on, the next best option is hiring a car. There are
numerous car rentals in South Australia, which offer well-priced
high-quality vehicles. This way, it also means you can experience
the natural environs at your own pace, too.

Day Trips From Adelaide
Barossa Valley
(1 hour North of Adelaide)
The Barossa valley was first settled in the mid-1800s, by
a mainly Germanic population, and their influence can be seen
in the local architecture among other things. Most famous
for its world-class wines, the Barossa vineyards produce 60
per cent of the best wine in Australia - best take some cheese
and crackers then! There are large and small wineries, with
most offering good prices on their own wines. The Barossa
is also a great place to go for food, such is the fine selection
of restaurants and smoke houses. In essence, the Barossa valley
offers the tastiest fruits of life!
Clare Valley
(2 hours north of Adelaide)
Similar in mood to the Barossa, the Clare Valley is a day
well spent if you enjoy fine food and wine. The Clare Valley
is also very historic, and anyone with an eye for traditional
architecture will find the heritage buildings in Burra, Mintaro
and Kapunda quite enrapturing. You will find huge gum tree
forests, amazingly scenic drives and, if you're feeling fit,
why not follow one of the bicycle paths dotted around the
area. Of course, the real die-hards will want to check out
the Mawson Trail, an 800km trek through the Tothill Ranges,
which finishes in the Brown Hill Range.
Goolwa
(1 hours south of Adelaide)
South of Adelaide is the old river town of Goolwa, with a
population of 3018, which means if rest and relaxation is
on the menu, this where you'll find it. The small township
is well recognised as a South Australian getaway destination,
located at the mouth of the Murray River, on lake Alexandrina.
The word Goolwa translates to 'elbow' in Aboriginal tongue,
as that is the shape the river follows around Hindmarsh Island.
You can take a cruise on one of the townships paddle steamers,
which is a popular attraction, and the area offers many quaint
Bed and Breakfast accommodations too. With a range of historical
attractions, plus many good eateries, Goolwa makes for a relaxed,
if not delightful day out.
Kangaroo Island
(3 hours south-west of Adelaide)
Kangaroo Island is about three hours south of Adelaide and
involves a ferry trip - the ferries operate from Cape Jervis
on the mainland to Penneshaw. But despite the extended travel
time from Adelaide, the island offers an abundance of memorable
activities. For starters, those who appreciate wildlife will
love to meet the locals: wallabies, sea lions, penguins, fur
seals, eagles, whales, goannas, koalas, echidnas, dolphins
and who could forget the kangaroos! The island is a naturally
beatiful place - it's isolation making it even more special,
with species of plant and animal life found in few other places
across the Australian continent. People are often surprised
at how big the island is, too, measuring 155km in length.
