The Way to See South Australia
Historic Sites in South Australia
Goolwa
South of Adelaide is the old river town of Goolwa, with a
population of 3018. The small township is well recognised
as a South Australian getaway destination, located at the
mouth of the Murray River, on lake Alexandrina, and was founded
in the 1840s. With a range of historical attractions - such
as the Goolwa
Maritime Museum and Gallery - plus many good eateries,
Goolwa makes for a relaxed, if not delightful day out.
Port
Adelaide
Home to one of Australia's newest AFL football teams, the
town of Port Adelaide is almost like stepping back in time,
such is the towns traditional presence. The Port Adelaide
river cruises on the M.V. Pt Princess are well worth checking
out, the local museums are a great way to a feel for the place
and you can even take a guided heritage walk, which highlights
much of the towns history
South
Australian Museum
This South Australian Museum is a packed full of interesting
objects. Recognised across the globe for its Australian Aboriginal
collections, this is one place you don't want to skip. A lot
of the cultural history collections include Ngurunderi, the
Egyptian Room and an Aboriginal Dreaming area. Highly recommended
for history buffs.
